This is an early post. I hope to have more this evening, when, hopefully, more details will be available.
Yesterday afternoon Hezbollah launched a large number of rockets at Israel. One of the larger missiles landed on a soccer field in the Druze town of Majdal Shams. At the time, there was a game between local youth teams going on. Warnings were sounded, but not everyone heard them. The explosion killed about 12 youngsters, aged 9 to 19, another 30 or more received injuries. The missile carried some 50kg of explosives.
The civilian village was probably not a major target, but it doesn’t look like Hezbollah made any effort to avoid hitting it. They launched about 50 rockets in an attempt to overwhelm IDF defenses. Many were intercepted.
The one that did hit was the subject of an instant Hezbollah propaganda response. First; they denied responsibility; then they said it was an Israeli conspiracy. The explosion was caused by an Israeli char e buries in the soccer pitch (how gullible do they think the world is?) then they said it was an Israeli Iron Dome missile that went astray. Unlike Hamas missile that have a 20% or more failure rate, missiles in the north do not often fail.
Prime Minister Netanyahu was in Washington and immediately headed back to Israel. What will be done in response is not yet evident.
