The UN added the IDF, Hamas and Hezbollah to a blacklist of countries that harm children. The blanket condemnation of all three is a very biased action. I doubt that anyone would object to characterizing the Islamic terror organizations in that way, but including Israel goes completely against the evidence that the IDF goes well beyond the efforts of every other country in the world to avoid civilian casualties (especially children).
My personal opinion is that the UN has long been against Israel. Many UN agencies seem to go out of their way to take actions designed to harm Israel. The list is headed by UNRWA (which should have been disestablished years ago) and includes UNICEF, WHO, and the Secretary General. I’d include UNIFIL, but the main problem with them is the conditions under which they have to work. When UNIFIL has reported Hezbollah violations (including the current Hezbollah refusal to obey UN resolutions to withdraw armed members to locations north of the Litani River) there is no mechanism for enforcement. The Secretary General doesn’t even bother to relate to that situation. Yet, if Hezbollah were to be located only in that area, much of the damage being done inside Israel by Hezbollah weaponry would be averted. The high risk of an open ground war would be lowered (even though the media doesn’t report much on this front).
Many Israelis feel that UN agencies delivering ‘humanitarian” aid (de facto financial support for Hamas) should be banned from entering Israel. That may not be realistic, but not granting entry visas to UN officials might be a reasonable step. Most of the senior administrators come with the intent (whether voiced openly or not) of gathering evidence to support steps like blacklisting the IDF. It’s worthy to note that they never did anything to try to verify the (often manipulated) claims of the Gaza Health Ministry casualty counts. No one in the UN ever even raised an eyebrow over the fact that those “statistics” never mention Hamas military casualties.
