America prepares for midterms – 3 May 2026

I’ve been putting this off for several days because it clashes with some feelings I’ve had for a long time.

When we moved from America to Israel in 1972 I used to say that the United States was a wonderful country and a great place to live; but Israel, with all the limitations of that time, was still better. Today, I am happier than ever that we made that move. I have had a wonderful life here. When I see the media reports on antisemitism in the US I cringe. How can that be happening?  It wasn’t like that when we left, was it?  I had always voted for Democrats in America. Today, I would not want to be anywhere near that political party. From my perspective, they are propagating monstrous lies based on a fiction that President Trump could ever even run for a third term, and they seem to base most of their actions on opposition to Trump. When I studied propaganda analysis this tactic was called using a straw man or a red herring in order to conceal their real objectives.

Among the worst things I’ve seen from the current Democrats are the failure to pay federal employees for months and claiming it was in opposition to an already funded federal agency ICE, The opposition to ICE was also full of falsehoods, not the least of which was calling ICE agents murderers. I watched all the video of the event in Minnesota very carefully before concluding that both cases were clearly justifiable homicide. I find the policy of releasing criminals with no bail a bankrupt approach. The failure of Democrat led local government in California, Illinois, and Virginia (all states I have lived in) to provide adequate services to protect their residents is criminal. Note that I did not mention fraud.

One of the more interesting migrations in American history was the Afro-American move away from Southern states. The policy of the President Biden to open the borders to anyone followed by preferential treatment for “illegal” immigrants over citizens (and even military veterans!) is driving a new migration of people away from states led by left wing politicians. There is nothing wrong with supporting ‘progressive’ legislation, but redefining gender for political gain looks to me like something contrary to equal opportunity. Political corruption., whether by fraud or by favoritism, seems to attach itself to a number of prominent Democrats.

Israeli politicians may be just as corrupt, /the difference may be that some Israelis like Ehud Olmert and Aryeh De’eri have already spent time in jail, and Benjamin Netanyahu is on trial now.  Will other prominent politicians face anything worse than being voted out of office?

Given the current wave of political assassinations, and attempted assassinations, I find it a little scary to think that a Democratic controlled House of Representatives might put current minority leader, Hakeem Jeffries (Speaker of the House is 3rd in the line of succession) into the White House.
