I had not intended to return to this today, but when I saw CNN just now, I changed my mind.
There has been an effort to attack the image of US President Trump by the opposition Democrats because of his statements (and actions) regarding the Somali immigrants in Minnesota. We used to call this tactic a “Red Herring”, an attempt to divert attention away from the real issue by focusing on something that is really irrelevant. The issue that does need to be addressed is the alleged fraud that diverted loads of money from federal sources to support corrupt (Democrat) office holders and Somali immigrant religious groups (Muslims) both inside Minnesota and even beyond the borders of the US. They also want to grant illegal immigrants, who are NOT US citizens; all the rights accorded such citizens. I doubt they are entitled to such considerations. They are, however, entitled to a deportation hearing. None of that is even remotely connected to the words the President uses to describe people.
I might add that I was the acting legal officer on a ship I served in off Vietnam. When we discovered a sailor using drugs our aim was to get him off the ship as rapidly as possible. Since summary procedures (Command non-judicial punishment, known as Captain’s Mast, or a one officer Summary Court Martial) cannot be used to justify separation from the service, I had to appoint a minimum 3 man Special Court Martial (whose results are the equivalent of a Federal Court Conviction) and use that to justify a discharge under other than honorable conditions. It seems to me that smuggling drugs into the US is a more serious crime than using drugs while on military duty.
