Gaza War 22 Mar

We are in a tragic era. Yesterday, the guards at the gate to our village shot and killed a man in his 60’s. No one, so far, has a reasonable explanation for why. The man was an Arab from Hebron who had converted to Judaism. He had a kitchen knife in his bag. But that was only discovered later. He alit from a bus at the Elazar stop. Apparently that aroused suspicion. The guards approached him, found the knife, and one of the guards shot him in the leg. The man died from loss of blood before he could be taken to hospital (was an ambulance even called in time?). The incident is under investigation. The guard might even be charged with murder. The whole story is very sad.

There is another serious tragedy being set up for the future. The US government is introducing a UN Security Council resolution to call for an Immediate Cease-Fire and release of hostages. The claimed motivation is the large number of ‘innocent’ civilian dead in Gaza. (a poll taken this week by an independent source showed that some 70% of Palestinians (both in Gaza and the West Bank!) support Hamas and approve of the October massacre. In other words, if the proposed resolution goes through, we get another Hamas “victory”. I may be Pyrrhic. The world thinks that over 31,,000 Palestinians have been killed and over 1/3 of all structures in the Gaza strip have either been destroyed or damaged (not including the Hamas underground tunnels). But Hamas will remain in control, and we will all see yet another spasm of violence in a few years (not to mention the continuous terrorist murders that are a feature of their rule). I see no reason to believe that Hamas will ever enter into any negotiations of any kind with Israel. They have never done so in the past and ignored requirements to do so in previous UNSC resolutions. I don’t know how the release of hostages will be arranged. The resolution, for now, is just a draft proposal. Details and amendments may change much of the substance. But what IS clear is that President Biden is throwing Israel under the bus (and supporting a radical Islamist terrorist regime).
