The US is still trying to convince Israel that it really is in Israel’s best interest to accept the Hamas proposals for a cease-fire and hostage exchange. This would appear to be primarily because the Americans view Hamas as a partner in the process. It doesn’t seem to matter to them that Hamas is a terrorist organization, or that Hamas remains dedicated to the destruction of Israel. It’s like requiring a drug addict to go to rehab, but not requiring him to complete the program.
The Hamas leopard is America’s friend and will readily change his spots because America tells him to do so. And if / when that doesn’t happen, the US will just pretend those spots don’t exist. Hamas is having considerable success with a propaganda program that focuses on Palestinian deaths and starvation. These are both items that Hamas, itself, has caused. But Hamas blames Israel. So the US (and a lot of others) also blames Israel. Israel is cast as the wicked landlord who allows the drug dealers to flourish in the neighborhood while the American policeman is being de-funded and can only scold the criminals for their behavior. US actions have not stopped the Houthi illegal blockade of the Suez Canal nor has Biden’s “don’t” deterred Hezbollah from launching rockets into Israel (Yes, they were the instigators of the current back and forth shooting. They said themselves that it was being done to support Hamas).
Isn’t it time to do away with UNRWA and resettle Arab refugees? Don’t they also deserve hope for future that does not end in a martyr’s grave? Do we really think that there would be no civilian casualties when Hamas makes it a policy to use them as human shields instead of armor? Radical Islam does not need to be permitted to exist under the guise of Freedom of Religion.
