World events, a personal view – 28 Mar 2026

The Houthis in Yemen made what may have been simply a symbolic gesture when launched 1 missile at Israel. They are also threatening to close the straits at the Southern end of the Red Sea, but the fact that they only fired one missile may indicate that they are not serious about active participation. They really could be afraid of American power.

In my house, however, things were not so quiet. T about 2:35 PM we had sirens and there were 2 separate explosions not far away from interceptions. Those are not things we would usually worry about. But my poor dog, Barkley, went into a fit of trembling when he heard the sirens. The follow up booms from the interceptions just made it worse. It took him more than half an hour to calm down.

I made the case for no American landing on Kharg Island in a previous post. But there are three more, smaller, islands that are ac ally in the straits of Hormuz. The US could land troops on those three with little problem. Iranian sovereignty over them is disputed. Iran controls them simply because Iran has more military power than its neighbors and Iran has become accustomed to the role of the regional bully.

I was glad to see Congress finally agree to pay some of the government employees. My view is that this was childish tantrum by the US Democrats. The only principle I see behind their maneuvers is a desire to perpetrate voter fraud in order to gain control of Congress. It is sad to see what appears to me to be Democratic Senators and Representatives willing to sacrifice the rights (and lives) of American citizens in order to (ostensibly) protect felons who should never have been allowed to even enter the US.

It will be interesting to see what happens to Ilhan Omar, whose own entry may have been based on a fraudulent claim (in addition to her potential involvement in defrauding the government).

By the way, I did send emails to my Rhode Island senator and Representative (Democrats) asking them to pay all the affected government employees. If I lived in the US I would certainly not support re-electing anyone who was involved in this travesty

  1. I don’t agree with your opinion on the childish actions of the democrats. There are so many issues involved in that “bill”. I do agree that Biden especially did not protect our borders. But the way the ICE storm troopers have acted is outrageous. Since Minnesota things have calmed down due to public outrage. People have been treated inhumanely and our government allowed it to happen. There’s so much more. Too much to discuss here.
I am very concerned about the governing powers allowing this country to alienate all of our allies. And Trump’s bestie being Putin. So many things!
