Gaza War 8 Aug

Families of UNRWA admins and Canadian diplomats are among those leaving the area. There was even a rumor that UNIFIL was pulling out, But UNIFIL quickly denied it. The actual shooting part of the war continues on the Israel-Lebanon border, as before. But some of it has expanded to other areas. Iraqi terror proxies fired on a US base in Iraq (some reports said US troops were injured) and the Houthis launched missiles and drones at shipping. Among the Houthi targets were two USN destroyers, both of which the Houthis claimed to have hit. The Navy says incoming hostile missiles were ALL shot down. I haven’t seen any report of American counter strikes, but the US did send another fighter squadron to the region.

There are lots of rumors flying on the diplomatic front. Jordan and Saudi Arabia have closed their airspace. So did Iran, but they were quick to alter the report to cover only part of northern Iran where there were military training maneuvers. The French were reported to have asked Iran and Hezbollah to delay any major action until after the Olympic Games. The US was said to be trying to bribe Iran with a threat of boycotting the resumption of nuclear talks if Iran actually carried out an attack. American transport aircraft are arriving in Israel with unknown cargoes. Similarly, Russian and Pakistani planes are going to Iran. The rumor mills say they are bringing in new air defense equipment.

When there is no real news the gossip forums flourish.
