This is one of the longest wars that Israel has ever fought. It’s not the longest war I was ever involved in. In America it is Memorial Day. The US remembers her fallen soldiers from past wars. I spent 3 tours of duty in Viet Nam with the US Navy Amphibious forces. The first tour was during the “advisors phase”, when US combat troops were not yet involved. The second time around, the first combat troops in Danang were sent ashore from my ship. We made another few round trips across the Pacific (or part of it) to deliver more men and equipment. I was transferred to the reserves in 1966. But I asked to be recalled to active duty and sent back to the war zone a year later. The Vietnam War was unpopular in America. But one of my own stronger memories is that the US decided the war was a lost cause and abandoned the South Vietnamese regime that America had set up. The US just did the same thing to Afghanistan. Should I be worried that America will also abandon Israel? American leadership (or lack thereof) appears to be resulting in increasing isolation for Israel. This is especially evident in media, where “humanitarian” concerns for “innocent” Palestinians overshadows all the horrors of the October 77th massacre, and all subsequent Hamas war crimes. Not only does Hamas continue to illegally hold kidnapped hostages (including American citizens) but they attack civilian Israeli sites every day with rockets launched from locations selected near schools, hospitals, and mosques specifically to result in Palestinian deaths when Israeli forces try to destroy the launchers. And all of this happens even though the nations and organizations that are complicit in spreading the fake news know (and suppress?) the truth.
