This weekend the IDF released a report that three more bodies of victims of the Oct 7th massacre have been recovered from inside Jabaliya. Hamas terrorists killed them, and then took the bodies back to Gaza. That way they could violate two separate humanitarian laws. 1) killing civilians and 2) not returning bodies of victims (they also failed to provide any information about the victims, which could be considered a third violation). I have not seen any media mention of this as a humanitarian crime. Have you?
The International Court of Justice was involved in rulings on the Gaza War. They ordered Israel to refrain from actions in Rafah. They did add on an extra sentence to their longer condemnation of Israeli activities and say that hostages should be released. It seems strange to me that a court trying to get to a peaceful conclusion of a violent war should address a request to refrain from violence to ONLY one of the two parties involved. Hamas (and Hezbollah) are still attacking Israeli civilian targets every day with rocket fire and drones. The ICJ doesn’t mention that at all. What they do say is that Israel must not engage in military activities that endanger the lives of Palestinians in Rafah, and that Israel must not relocate those civilians in order to protect them from the dangers of being in an area where there is ongoing combat. Hamas is not asked to refrain from activities endangering Rafah residents. Why not?
The simple answer might be that the ICJ is just another forum to be used to castigate Israel. It is obviously not useful for much else.
