Despite the public pronouncements that The US has Israel’s back, what we see today is that the US is busy stabbing Israel in the back. American officials are releasing reports that Hamas as actually not lost most of its strength. Hamas has been able to recruit new terrorists to the extent that are at about 60% of their October strength (so say the Americans). Thanks to PM Netanyahu’s waffling the only civil authority in Gaza is still, Hamas. That much heralded American built floating pier to deliver aid is working, but the cargo arriving over it has, so far, not moved beyond the beach. Why? Because the distribution is solidly under Hamas control. Netanyahu won’t allow the IDF to intervene lest Israel should appear to be an “occupier”. A lot of the rest of the world already says that, despite the fact that most of the troops that entered Gaza have long been withdrawn (Thanks to American pressure).
Secretary of State Blinken is trying carrot and stick diplomacy. The US will arrange Saudi recognition of Israel in return for a Palestinian state (and a US- Saudi defense deal). American intelligence is promising aid to locate Sinwar in Gaza (does that mean they were withholding it until now?). Finland, Norway, Ireland and Spain are all recognizing a state of Palestine (with no defined borders!) openly undercutting the requirements of several Security council resolutions calling for that, and other issues, to be resolved by direct negotiations between the parties (Hamas has NEVER negotiated directly with Israel). A statement by an Arab-American former state Dept. official that terrorism (of any kind!) can never be defeated just adds to the growing list of Hamas successes.
It’s obvious that the Biden administration is no longer maintaining America’s role as leader of the free world. The upcoming election is only part of the problem, not the cause.
