The American Presidential campaign continues to have an impact on our local war. Biden has repeated his statement that 30,000 dead civilian Palestinians is an excessive toll (America and her allies ONLY killed 46,000 Afghan civilians, and took a longer time to do so). This number raises a couple of other interesting questions. Where do those statistics come from? And how reliable are they? As noted yesterday (and before) the sole source of non-Israeli supplied data from inside Gaza is Hamas. For some reason, the major media all seem to accept the numbers from the Hamas government’s medical offices. They don’t even bother with a standard ‘we are unable to independently verify’ disclaimer. The numbers may actually be true. But that cannot be said about the images that often accompany them. There is also the question of how many of the dead are really women and children? Or non-combatants? Israeli forces routinely search the bodies of the people they kill whenever it is possible. The main reason is to collect data of intelligence value, but the search is made, nevertheless. Among other things, this obviously allows Israeli intelligence to compare names against lists of known terrorists. It isn’t information that is contained in the IDF daily briefings.
The US focus on PALESTINIAN dead might also raise some eyebrows. Why is nothing said about the dead non-combatants in other conflicts? How many have been killed in Sudan? In Yemen? In Syria? Or even in Haiti? Is this some kind of grey area antisemitism being used to help the political campaign? Perhaps not, but it certainly made me stop and think. Who writes his speeches?
