Over the weekend the IDF has been continuing the methodical exploration of the underground tunnel system beneath Khan Yunis. Yesterday one of the discoveries was an underground prison where hostages had been held. There were iron bar cells and lots of detritus that pointed to prior occupation by hostages although none were present now. There were 4 pages of drawings made by a little girl who was released in the earlier exchange. DNA testing was performed on many items to confirm the identity of the hostages who had been imprisoned there. Then that section of tunnel was destroyed.
Other tunnels contained shafts leading to rocket launchers, some with rockets still in them, and some with nearby assembly areas containing parts, explosives, and rocket fuel. These tunnels were also blown up. The IDF reported that one Israeli soldier had been killed. Hamas has from 20 to 60 of their combatants killed daily. Recent video footage showed Hamas terrorists shooting at IDF positions. The terrorists were wearing back Adidas sports outfits. Made me wonder if they were running out of uniforms or just trying to look more like innocent civilians.
UN Secretary General says the Palestinians need to be given a state. He has never said that it must not be in place of Israel. Neither, to my knowledge, has he ever said there was anything wrong with Iran constantly saying Israel must be destroyed. I do not believe he is ignorant of the fact that the reason there hasn’t been a Palestinian State for 75 years has nothing to do with Israel (except in the minds of radical Islamist Arabs). The several Arab armies in 1948 did not invade to create a Palestinian State. The first separate Palestinian movement for an independent country only came in 1964, and even then it was to be creates IN PLACE of Israel. I do not expect any progress toward creating an independent Palestine until Arab society stops using Israel as a scapegoat and looks inside to find a new way forward.
