Two items need to be mentioned today, and they are related.
The Houthi regime in Yemen is engaged in a real shooting contest with the US Navy. The Houthi regime had sent pirates (I think that’s the proper term to use here) to seize a Liberian flagged tanker with Israeli commercial connections. An American destroyer came to the rescue, and the attackers tried to flee in a small boat. The destroyer apprehended them.
The Houthis in Yemen responded to this by firing missiles at the American ship. The anti-aircraft missiles of the destroyer knocked all the incoming missiles out of the sky.
The important part of this little incident is that Iran’s puppet regime in Yemen was not afraid to shoot at an American warship. Iranian backed militias, mostly in Iraq, have made more than 100 attacks on US installations in the region and those attacks resulted in 3 US servicemen being hurt, one critically. So far, the US has not been willing to react with force.
The second item is related. Media coverage of the Gaza war, and all related fighting, treats the struggle as a nation state type event. It may be that, but it is also something much more. It’s a religious conflict. The participants on one side (Hamas, Iran, Hezbollah, and Houthis) are all motivated by a radical interpretation of Islam. I’ll be writing more about what that means. For now, just remember that radical Islam (like 9/11) uses terror as a weapon, and does not accept compromise solutions. They’d rather die.
Iran also just increased the level of their Uranium enrichment again. A nuclear weapon in the hands of a radical Islamic power is a lot scarier than one in the hands of a petty North Korean dictator.
