The UN General Assembly passed a resolution (non-binding) calling for a cease-fire. It doesn’t mention Hamas. One of the most disturbing things about this entire war has been the apparent total reluctance to condemn Hamas for what it has done. No one points out that Hamas has consistently refused to conduct face to face talks with Israel. Instead, they talk about Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu “understandably” not wanting to negotiate with Hamas. Israeli attacks are called “indiscriminate”, but Hamas rocket fire doesn’t even get a mention. The world needs to be reminded that the invasion and atrocities of October 7th did not occur in a vacuum. They were just one more step in a continuous process of violent attacks on Jews by Hamas that goes back over 15 years!
The Israeli Ambassador to the UK was interviewed on Sky News. The interviewer might have been just trying to provoke her, but he repeatedly asked her questions based on false claims against the Israeli government and the IDF. He should have known that was what he was doing. When the Ambassador pointed out that re-education of Gazans would be necessary to undo the damage done by Hamas educating their children to hate and kill Jews, she was cut off. And that was exactly when she was mentioning that a long process of re-education for Nazi Germany was what the British Government had started in 1945.
Two relatively wealthy nations, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, have publicly stated that they will not participate in rebuilding Gaza. Qatar also told Hamas representatives to leave because their safety could not be guaranteed. The Israeli position is that Gaza has to be demilitarized, but Israel wants no part of governing Gaza. Also, according to Netanyahu, the current Palestinian Authority should not be put in charge. This still leaves a lot of room for discussion. Given the education of the Gazans for the past few years, a western style democracy doesn’t look like it would stand much chance of survival. Whatever happens, UNRWA ought not to be part of the solution.
