My prediction about the next move Hamas would try came true only a short while after it was posted. The unfortunate victim was IDF Private Noa Marciano. She was just 19 years old. She was assigned to the unit that kept watch on the border using cameras. Hamas disabled those cameras at the start of their incursion. The base where the border watch unit worked was one that the terrorists overran early in their attack.
Hamas claimed she was killed in an Israeli air strike. Details, of course, were not included. She was advanced in rank to corporal after her death. Such promotions are almost a standard procedure in the IDF and were designed, in part, to provide a little more compensation to surviving family members.
There was a massive pro-Israel demonstration in Washington D.C. The delegation from Boston included my grandson, Ravid, and Daughter, Ronit. Ronit was recently interviewed in Hebrew on Israeli radio (Galei Tzahal). She was interviewed, in part, because her second son is in the IDF. I feel like it’s almost a family tradition. I was interviewed on Israel radio in 1967 (before the 6 day war) because I was then an American student at Hebrew University and was adamant that no Egyptian dictator was going to frighten me into leaving.
There was a scary incident connected to the Washington event. A group from Detroit was going to the demonstration on a chartered flight. The bus drivers contracted to take them to the planes refused to carry Jews to the aircraft. When they finally did arrive, it was just in time to go back to Detroit. It’s unbelievable that such a violation of constitutionally guaranteed rights could be occurring in America. Fox news covered this story, but I did not see it anywhere else. What has happened to American Democracy?
