It may have nothing to do with the dogs escaping from our yard. But Maggie, the bigger one, has been feeling ill. She’s lethargic, makes strange sounds, almost like snoring, when she breathes. and has some swelling in her throat.
We took her to the vet where she got a thorough exam. It included blood tests and an xray. Bottom line was that we really don’t know what’s wrong, but there’s an unidentified lump that is pressing on her trachea (windpipe). The vet provided some anti-inflammatory pills to use till the blood tests come back. As a bonus, Maggie got her toenails clipped. They were very long, and neither my wife nor I felt comfortable trying to trim them.
The tests are back. We have to make another appointment for tomorrow. Meanwhile, Maggie experienced a full day of digestive trouble yesterday. She vomited about 4 times. And it doesn’t seem to be related to the pills we’ve been giving her. Today she seems at least partially recovered. The pills relieved some arthritic pains she was having in her back legs, Oh, yes, she also has her appetite back. She was VERY interested in eating almost anything we would let her have. That may be at least partly related to the fact that she is part Labrador.
Spoke with the vet. we’ll take her in to the clinic in the morning. I’ll post further developments after that.
