I just noticed how long it has been since I put up a new post. There are lots of reasons. The main one is that I’ve been very busy. I finally got a finished version of my Easter Egg Fleet book and sent it to the printers. The proof version came back and I discovered a lot of small errors that needed to be corrected. Those were done, and the new version was sent off yesterday. I’ll get a new proof print in 2-3 days. Then, hopefully, I’ll be able to release the book for sale.
Another big claim on my time has been the Jewish holiday season. One event from the middle of that is in the following story:
Opera versus Anniversary
The village where I live just celebrated 45 years since the first residents arrived. Due to the COVID problem the event became an open air traveling musicians performance. The performers loaded themselves and their equipment onto vehicles and drove around the village playing very loud amplified tunes. Residents came into their yards to see and hear them while preserving “social distancing”. All in all, it was a very happy day. Many of the residents really enjoyed it. But not I.
I had started watching a very nice performance of Mozart’s “Cosi Fan Tutti” on TV. Then the mobile celebration came down our street. I could not hear the Opera. I continued to watch because it was very well staged and acted. The LYON Opera did it in almost modern dress. But the musicians outside had bigger amplifiers. Their tunes drowned out the opera singers. I could not record the TV performance. It was already well into the first act, and I would have been recording only part of the opera. I was frustrated. My wife saw this and made a smartphone SMS complaint to the village authorities. I suspect we were the only ones in the village to not enjoy the traveling show.
