The big news today is actually appearing in most of the media. Hamas is going to release 4 bodies tomorrow and 6 live hostages on Saturday followed by 4 more bodies next week.

I don’t know why this should be such a cause for celebration. My focus is on the fact that they never should have been taken in the first place. I cannot grasp why terrorists should be rewarded for committing crimes.

Regardless of my feelings, the confirmation by Hamas (if it really is so) that the remaining Bibas family members are all dead is very sad, and deeply disturbing. It is natural for them to claim it was an IAF strike that caused their death, but it flat isn’t true. The real reason is that Hamas took them captive and used them as human shields to protect themselves.  Any other claim is just diversionary.

By the way, the 6 live hostages include 2 who have been held by Hamas for over a decade; an Ethiopian Jew and a Bedouin who independently strayed across the border and were captured.

Despite the bitter cast of what I have just written, I am thankful that these victims are being granted their freedom
