Gaza/Lebanon War 2 Oct
The first siren came at 19:33, local time. My wife and I were on the sofa, watching the evening news. The IDF automated warning system came on and the TV shifted immediately to reporting the Iranian missile attack. I locked the front door and we settled down to await an “All Clear”. Our children and grandchildren at different locations in the country all dutifully reported in as being in sheltered locations. We do this on a private “WhatsAp” group.
Our family dog never likes loud noises. That includes sirens. He jumped up to be close to us and was trembling. The safety instructions say to remain in shelter for at least ten minutes so that falling shrapnel and parts from intercepted missiles will have time to come down. A Palestinian civilian in Jericho became the only fatality caused by the Iranian attack when he was hit by falling shrapnel.
There were about 5 more live warnings before the attack ended. We heard the explosions of more than 50 interceptions. We did not go out to look (dangerous). The entire attack amounted to over 180 missiles (one report said a couple of the missiles failed to launch correctly and landed in Iranian territory. Overall, the entire attack amounted to a solid victory for the Air Defense Forces over the attackers. It was a much better result than the previous attack last April.
Media scare-mongers failed to report that the Iranians said the attack represented a ”closing of the books” for them. They hoped there would not be any further tit for tat retaliations. (They did threaten that Iran still had a lot of missiles available).
The UN Secretary General did NOT condemn the attack. Also, Israel did not expel UNRWA (or any other UN organization, although it seems to me they had ample reason to do so).
