A majority of Israelis are unhappy with Netanyahu. His coalition government is notable for dealing with distributing benefits to his junior partners (especially the ultra-orthodox) while avoiding decisions about how to get hostages released (and how to proceed with the war). He has been making promises (that he probably knows he can’t keep) and following them with excuses for postponements.
Nowhere is the felt stronger than in northern Israel. Many thousands of citizens have been evacuated from their homes while Hezbollah sends rockets and drones across the border. IDF plans are prepared, and never executed, because Netanyahu cannot decide to act. The US has just sent another special envoi to keep Israel from dealing with Hezbollah, Biden is still worried about a wider war. His “Don’t” has long been exposed as an empty threat. The US has no influence in the Israeli public. The longer this goes on, the weaker any Israeli deterrent posture becomes.
Hassan Nasrallah once described Israel as “as weak as a spider’s web”. But Israel isn’t weak, just Netanyahu, because he is still putting personal political considerations ahead of concern for the country.
There is no alternative to Hamas in Gaza because Israel vetoed Hamas participation (and the also decided not to allow the Palestinian Authority in, either). A real alternative to Hamas needs years of preparation in order to undo the biased anti-Semitic indoctrination that has been part of their educational system for generations. So far, nobody seems prepared to recognize this
