President Biden gave his State of the Union / Reelect me speech. With regard to the War in Gaza he made a terrible gaffe which American pundits are unlikely to catch. He made it sound like Israel was rejecting a 2 state solution (the one the US would like to impose). The real obstacle to a 2 state solution (which Israel accepted in the Oslo Accords) is Hamas. The Hamas Covenant (available on-line to read, albeit quite long) is crystal clear that the only acceptable solution for them is a single unified Arab Islamic state in ALL Palestine.
Neither the President nor the Media seem to notice that they are attacking the wrong belligerent. Don’t they remember who initiated the current war? Or why? Have they forgotten who actually distributes humanitarian aid after it crosses the border? If it comes from Rafah in Egypt Hamas hijacks most of it, and their partners in crime, UNRWA, refuses to distribute it in the north of the Gaza strip. Israel isn’t the root of the trouble. To paraphrase an old political slogan, “It’s Hamas, Stupid!”.
Biden also wants the US to build a port for Gazan aid, and to do it without having US forces on Gazan shores. I don’t know how (or even if) that would work. It looks like a way to spend a lot of money to help Hamas and disguise it as ‘humanitarian aid’. Israel’s legally declared and enforced blockade would still permit Israeli inspectors to check on the shipments (if they ever were actually sent) but who would offload the cargo? And how? And how would it reach Gazans? This appears to me to be just another campaign promise that will never be honored. It might, however, provide a lot of busy work for a lot of staff officers trying to figure out how it could be possible.
