Super Tuesday primary election results are getting all the media coverage. Well, not quite all, but most. CNN is busy accepting UN claims that the IDF blocked an aid convoy headed north. This time the source was the WFP, not discredited UNRWA. And, once again, the report was erroneous. The truck in question was being pursued by hungry Gazans (whose food is regularly hijacked by Hamas). The IDF fired in the air to keep them from approaching IDF positions. When it stopped, the cargo was looted by the refugees instead of going into Hamas storehouses. Even American Vice-President Kamala Harris joined the “Blame Israel” chorus. The sad thing is that the governments and media know what Hamas does, but seem reluctant to openly say so. Possibly because there is hope that Hamas will still accept some kind of hostage release deal?
Let’s speak plainly about those hostages. They are victims of an illegal kidnapping (it’s a civil crime AND a violation of the international rules of war). They should all have been released immediately after they were taken, and with no quid pro quo. Hamas is known as a criminal and terrorist organization that exists for the aggrandizement of its leaders, not for any kind of benefits for Palestinian Arabs. Iran sponsors them with money and arms (when they can be smuggled in). Appeasement has never been a successful strategy in dealings of this kind. The politicians (and media) are aware of this, and should not be allowed to evade responsibility.
