The brief break in the news about Sinwar being in Egypt seems to have died down. All the potential official sources for the story are saying it isn’t true and that they do not know where he is.
There is a new lead item to replace it. The US vetoed a Security Council Resolution (remember, those are binding) calling for an immediate cease fire. The British abstained. Everyone else voted yes. The US explained that there were no conditions specified on the Algerian draft. Instead, The US is preparing another resolution calling for a temporary cease-fire in order to allow for the release of all hostages and the distribution of aid to all refugees. UNRWA aid from Egypt doesn’t reach the north of the Gaza strip because Hamas hijacks it all. Israeli convoys to the north with UN aid from Ashdod have been blocked by Israeli demonstrations. That means no real aid is getting through to civilians in the north of the Gaza strip. One result is a constant increase in the number of Palestinian civilians that are openly voicing complaints against the Hamas government. One problem that results from that is that the Israeli government is still not offering any alternative governing body in place of Hamas, and neither is anyone else in the world!
The president of the Palestinian Authority has gone, hat in hand, to beg for financial assistance from Qatar. He has been reduced to this because Israeli finance minister Smotrich is withholding payments due to the PA in an amount equal to what the PA pays to Palestinian terrorists imprisoned in Israeli jails (and their families). The PA defiantly refused to halt this ‘pay for slay’ program, and even enlarged it. Now the PA is facing problems making the payroll for their own police force (and other lower level officials).
Before you say they’re just getting what they deserve, consider also that there have been a few cases of Israeli reservists who lost their jobs while on active duty. That’s contrary to Israeli law. But it has happened anyway. So far, the cases have not been resolved.
