As I have already noted, Hamas is trying to revert to an old formula that has the world intervene to protect them. It’s cloaked in “humanitarian crisis” terms, and the loudest voices on the block are from the UN representatives (in Gaza, these are almost all Arabs). It means that Hamas vetted pictures are going to be filling the TV screens. There are problems associated with this.
First, it distracts attention from dealing with the original criminal attack on Israel. Hamas is looking to get yet another free pass for committing murder.
Second, it’s all based on false claims. Israel allows food and water and medical supplies to be brought in from Egypt. Why are there so few trucks going through? It’s because Hamas is limiting them. Cargos are inspected so Hamas can steal anything they want. The inspections take place in Hamas territory, so there is no photo/video evidence. Numbers are limited (by Hamas) so that the “crisis” will continue to grab headlines. And add to that the claim that the roads are not usable due to Israeli bombing at a time when the Israeli Air Force is attacking target on the North side of the strip, and the aid entry point is on the South.
Third, there is no shortage of fuel in Gaza. Hamas just won’t give it to the aid agencies. Over the past 2 days the UNRWA representative pleading for fuel changed the wording of her complaint to say that it’s the UN agencies that are running out of fuel, not that there isn’t a fuel reserve in Gaza.
This doesn’t mean that Gazans aren’t suffering, but it does show that the main reason is Hamas actions. Don’t forget that they also started this war.
