Yesterday afternoon we heard about 5 explosions that were clearly not from very far away. It turned out to be the sound of Iron Dome interceptions of Hamas rockets aimed at Jerusalem. One rocket got through and landed in the Gilo neighborhood. That’s where I had my Dental teeth cleaning appointment last week. Two things to note from this: One; the entire country is under fire. Two; Iron Dome is the best defensive system in the world, but there are still some rockets that can get through. Fortunately, in this case there were no casualties.
The IDF has still not opened a ground offensive. There are several possible reasons for this. Here are a few. The weather has been rainy. This puts some limitations on air support. Israeli pilots usually use visual identification of targets as one of the ways to limit civilian casualties. Precision Guided Munitions, whether GPS or Laser, cannot make that kind of discriminate call. Israeli intelligence is still processing items from Hamas prisoners. The “target data bank” that the Air Force uses has grown considerably because of this. The new targets that can be hit from the air can result in fewer casualties to IDF ground troops, if and when, they go in.
I appreciate that so many of you who read this have indicated feedback. Feel free to share my posts with anyone. But I am not interested in adding more Facebook friends. My policy for adding people is normally that they are family members. They may be more distant, and I know I have a lot that are not on my friends list who may be third cousins twice removed or some similar relationship. I’d be happy to add them, but no someone who may be your close friend who is not related.
