I’ve seen reports on some international news channels complaints about Gazans suffering from the effects of Israel restricting supply of fuel, food, water, fuel and electricity. It’s true that there were statements that Israel was doing that, but that isn’t the whole picture.
Let me start by saying that the only item that is really cut off is electricity. Gaza has access to electricity from Egypt, but not from Israel, and their own power plant is out fuel. There are lots of emergency generators in Gaza, especially at the homes of Gazan officials, and at the hospital. Hamas is still able to move fuel from their own stocks to locations like the hospital. If they choose not to do so that’s not Israel’s fault. There is no shortage of food or water right now. The IDF has a special staff group that monitors the situation in order not to create a humanitarian problem. Hamas would like to have the world think there is a problem, but it isn’t true yet. Hamas is talking to Egypt about trading some of the people they kidnapped in return for allowing ‘humanitarian’ aid to enter. Israel is not part of that negotiation. As of now, the Israeli position is that Hamas should immediately, and unconditionally release ALL the kidnap victims. In the northern part of the Gaza territory civilians are being warned to evacuate and move south to avoid being caught up in areas where Israel may attack. This is similar to the standard operating procedure s of the Israeli air force here people living in targeted buildings are warned by radio, by telephone (Yes, Israel has all the phone numbers in Gaza) and also by dropping warning leaflets, All of the above are done in Arabic. Palestinian Arabs are not the target; Hamas is.
