From watching TV news recently you could get the impression that the CORONA crisis is over. My wife and I got our first inoculations, and so did thousands of others. But the population that needs vaccination numbers in the hundreds of millions. It is much to early to celebrate. The reports of deliveries of millions of vials of vaccine from more than one supplier is, truly, a reason to be happy. But delivery is only the first step in a long process.
We received the Pfizer vaccine. It requires 2 inoculations to be really effective. The shots must come after at least 3 weeks and not more than 6 weeks. The second inoculation needs to be done with the same vaccine as the first.It appears that there is a lot of misinformation out there about mixing vaccines. Mixing is NOT acceptable. In addition, there is a wait after receiving an inoculation of a week to 10 days to allow your body to manufacture additional antibodies. Having received the first shot does NOT mean you are now safe.
The backlog of people waiting to receive their first shot will take months to deal with. Add the delay between shots etc. mentioned above and you realize that the rules for wearing masks, social distancing, and washing your hands are going to be in place for a long time yet.
Now is not the time to start going to big gatherings, parties, sports events, and concerts. please be patient and continue to practice safety.
