It seems there is almost no news on TV that isn’t connected to the pandemic. And most of it is pretty much the same. We remain at home/ Our village council has arranged lots of creative programs for the residents. We have had 6 confirmed cases, but folowing the rules had kept it from spreading rapidly. We get visits from the olderschool children. They have been given a mission to adopt senior residents. That includes us. Yesterday they brought us a package tailored to events in the coming week. We live in Israel. Next week is Israel Independence Day, and also a memorial dday for our fallen soldiers. We were given a memorial candle to light for the latter. The package also included a flag to display which I will hang outside later today. There was also a game like a treasure hunt for all ages and a color by the numbers to disclose a hidden picture. The national celebrations will take place without an audience. That also includes the annual International Bible Quiz. We will watch those on TV.
Overall, Israel has been relatively fortunate with regard to the pandemic. Our fatalities are remarkably low compared to other countries. Most of them were elderly, hence our adherence to the orders to stay at home. We are part of the population that is regarded as being at higher risk. Our children keep in contact daily. We get telephone calls, messages, and they even set up a couple of ZOOM conference calls. Regarding ZOOM, I was asked to give a presentation for the local population regarding my experiences in the military and in various wars. About 50 people tuned in. I got a lof of positive feedback.
All things considered, I suspect we are gradually settling into a new, COVID-19 routine. The national economy is going to be taking first steps to reopening this week with the hope of gradually returning to a new normalcy. Other countries are also doing this, but most of them were hit harder than we were, especially those in Europe.
