A Long Holiday – And More to Come

I have not posted for a while. The reason is because We’ve been so busy. Today is the 7th day (out of 8) of Chanukah. It seems like nearly every day we were celebrating somewhere else. One day with our younger son and his family, another with our oldest daughter, etc. We also had a house guest for two days. We have a short respite this coming week to prepare for a visit by number 2 daughter coming from the USA. But we don’t get to start that mission until after tomorrow. Why? Because tomorrow is the annual Chanukah Scrabble Tournament. As both my wife and myself are hooked on the game it is an event we really don’t want to miss. An all Day binge of serious scrabble consisting of at least nine games. Scrabble tournaments are always run with two people playing each other every round. Sometimes its a round robin and you play every other player in your division once. Other times it is played by a system of winners play winners and losers play losers until one person emerges as the top player. It all depends upon how many participants are registered. I’ll be playing in the top section and will consider myself lucky to win half of my games. My opponents will be the best players in the Jerusalem Club, and maybe a visitor or two from other locales. Oh, yes, It’s not just the games that take up the time. We have to take our two dogs to a kennel for the day because we won’t be able care for them (food, water, exercise) while we are involved with the tournament. The various parties we’ve been at never kept us away from home for more than about 5 hours. Even that is  long time to leave our poor pups alone.
