My model collection is all in scale 1/1200. That means a 1 inch long model represents a 100 foot long vessel. Commercial model makers used to work in cast metal when I started collecting. Making a master for casting was an expensive project and many ships, especially smaller ones, were rarely included in their offerings. I solved the problem by making my own models out of scrap wood and pins. Here are a few of the smaller models of American WWII ships I made to enhance my collection. This was about thirty years ago. I did not have magnifying glasses, but I did have a good pair of tweezers. Many of the small pieces were cut out more than once because I dropped the previous one and could not easily locate it on the floor.
