Last night an 18 year old student was stabbed to death. His body was dumped just a few meters off the road we took this morning to go mail a letter at a nearby post office. The murder was attributed by the police to “nationalistic” motives. Obviously the killing didn’t deter us from traveling on the road. One single murder isn’t going to cause the collapse of the Israeli government, or any part of it. That means that rationally, it was a senseless murder.
Predictably, various Palestinian organizations, including those who control the Palestinian authority, The Gaza strip, and various branches of the Arabic language media, all jumped on the band wagon to extol the murder, praise the murderer, and reiterate a lot of spurious propaganda about “occupation” and “apartheid”. How sad!!
There may be a way, or even many ways, to solve or alleviate the Israel-Palestine problem. Promoting individual murders is definitely not one of them. The Palestinian Authority, and many other Islamic extremist groups, are happy to see any activity that causes rifts or suspicion between the Jewish and Arab residents. There are groups in Israel that try to foster understanding and good relations between the two peoples. There are, unfortunately, no such organizations on the Palestinian side. The path to a peaceful solution starts with the Palestinians ceasing to teach their children to hate Jews.
