This year our Passover holiday was very busy. We went to a hotel. Our older son and his family joined us for the first two days. The next day our older daughter came with most of her family/. The day after that we went into Jerusalem to meet a close friend. We went to see the film “The Green Book”. It was one of the best I’ve seen in quite a while. The following day the hotel organized a simultaneous chess competition for guests against the Israeli /youth Champion. More about that later. We went into Jerusalem again after that to meet some good friends from Haifa. After a Shabbat break it was time to go home.We “rescued” our two dogs from the kennel where we had left them. Then we settled down to preparations for a return to normal. That involved doing a lot of laundry and ironing and restocking our depleted food reserves.We really knew the holiday was over when we returned to the weekly meeting of the Jerusalem Scrabble Club.
Now, back to chess. The young man who gave the simultaneous exhibit did quite well. He actually won all the games except for one. I made a point of congratulating the sole victor after breakfast the following day. He was interested in playing against me. So we arranged to meet the next afternoon during a free time break.It was a hard fought game. I emerged the winner.Since we did not have time for another game, we agreed to play again the following day. He had defeated his opponent in the simultaneous game. but he could not repeat that performance in the two games against me. When one of my grandsons heard about this all he could do was to ask why I lost the game in the simultaneous exhibition. It’s great to have a fan club!
