The US Agency for International Development (AID) is due to cease operations in )Palestine on 31 January. It isn’t a surprise. Especially since the President of the Palestinian Authority essentially told US President Trump to Go to Hell (literally – “may your house be destroyed”) and said he wanted no more help after The US Embassy was moved to Jerusalem.
I have a more personal view about this. In 1967, during the six day war, I was a student at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. The University tennis courts were taken over by the army as a place for dealing with captured enemy soldiers and equipment. I walked past the tennis courts one morning and saw a captured Jordanian army jeep with a 105mm cannon mounted on it. The ammunition for the weapon was kept in the back of the jeep. There were several boxes. All of them marked with the US AID handclasp logo.
I remember thinking that I was a US citizen and my government is sending these weapons to Jordan so the Arabs can use them to try to kill me. Not a happy thought.
I know that US AID also provided important humanitarian aiad, but as far as I*’m concerned, president Abbas, May YOUR house be destroyed.
