Hamas controls Gaza. They also have some support in the Fatah controlled territories in Judea and Samaria. They made an agreement via Egyptian mediators to abstain from violent confrontations on the Israel-Gaza border. So far, So good.

It seems Israel was prepared to do that if the rockets and fire balloons tunnels and confrontations along the border fence) didn’t stop. So they opted for a new tactic. Conduct attacks on Jews in Jerusalem and the West Bank using members of their organization that live in the area (not in Gaza). In the past few weeks those Hamas members have carried out several attacks. One of them was a shooting at a civilian car in which the a young man and his pregnant wife were driving. The doctors saved her life by taking the baby in a Cesarean operation. The child only survived 4 days. Hamas extolled their operators as heroes and martyrs. Of course, the martyrs title was not included until after the Israeli security forces tracked them down and killed some of them.
Those activities may have results that Hamas has not expected. The Fatah controlled Palestinian Police kept protestors from interfering with the Israeli army operations in Ramallah and the vicinity that led to the death or capture of some Hamas members that were involved in earlier attacks, That includes the one that killed the ten unborn baby.
What I find hard to understand is the stories in the international press and in diplomatic circles that make an attempt to blame Israel as well as Hamas for the escalating tensions. of course, that may be because the Israeli side of the story is either unreported or played down. Maybe Hamas knew that would happen. There has, after all,s been a worrisome rise in Antisemitism worldwide.
