It all started when Hamas in Gaza had a demonstration exercise for some of their VIPs. A couple of them fired in the direction of an Israeli infantry unit near the separation fence. A nearby Israeli tank took out the snipers. At that point it was 9:2 in Israels favor. Hamas couldn’t let that go by without a response. They started firing rockets and mortars at Israeli civilians nearby. So far they have fired almost 200 rockets. One of them was launched at Beersheva., The Israeli air force responded by blasting about 150 targets in the Gaza area after warning civilians to keep away from the targets. As I write this there is no end in sight. Both sides say they don’t want any escalation, but after every Israeli air strike there are more rockets fired at Israeli towns.
It’s a real contrast to see Hamas launching unguided rockets into Israeli territory, where they have little control over how close they will be to any possible target. Israeli air defences actually intercept many of them, but a few have caused injuries to Israeli civilians. On the other side, Israeli aircraft launch smart bombs at precise targets and cause extensive damage and even several casualties, in an effort to make the Hamas terrorists back off. Not sure where it will go from here.
